On Monday May 13, 2013, at 12:51 pm, Southern Manatee Fire Rescue responded to a reported structure fire located at 5128 16th Street East. The first engine company on scene arrived within four minutes of dispatch, and found a twelve hundred square foot single story home with the back half of the structure fully engulfed in flames, with fire venting through the roof. The fire was brought under control within fifteen minute by fifteen fire and EMS personnel who responded to the fire on two Engines, a Ladder Truck, a Command Vehicle and an EMS unit. The structure was unoccupied at the time of the fire and there were no injuries to any personnel. The structure sustained approximately $30,000 in damage. Southern Manatee Fire Rescue Investigators along with investigators from the State Fire Marshall’s office responded to the scene. The cause of the fire has not been determined at this time and is still under investigation.
