Prevent & Prepare
The Southern Manatee Fire Prevention Division is responsible for the regulatory and code enforcement segment of the fire service. The Division has a broad spectrum of responsibilities and is not limited to:
Annual Fire Safety Inspections, Fire Investigations, Public Education, Youth Firesetters Program, Smoke Alarm Program, Plans Review (Site, Construction, and Systems), Construction Site Visits as well as enforcement issues.
With the recent growth in the county, the Fire Prevention Division has experienced a greater demand on plans review and construction site visits. During the past year, 2022, 110 site plans, 646 construction plans and 165 system plans were reviewed by Fire Prevention. Plans are reviewed for current code compliance to assure the structure is safe for those who enter.
Southern Manatee Fire Rescue is dedicated to prevention and believes in Prevention through Education. We offer a wide variety of services and education to the public at no charge. From extinguisher training to fire drills, teaching about smoke alarms or installing them and teaching children how to get out of a burning building. These are some of the services we offer at Southern Manatee Fire Rescue.
In an effort to increase our Public Protection Classification Rating with ISO (Insurance Services Office) the Fire Prevention Division has incorporated a newsletter that reaches out to the public with information about safety. The newsletter discusses important issues like: Cooking fires, fireworks, hurricane season, Zika, lightning and any hot topics that are related to public safety. Take a look at some of our recent issues located here on the web site.
